Astromist alignment

Hi all,
I recently finished building david eks box for my 12'' dob and it works great with my laptop, but not with my PDA, i cant seem to align it at all. Does anyone know of a terminal-like program, so i can see whether the PDA can even see the box in the first place.
Also, can anyone give step by step instructions on how to align the thing. I've followed the user guide and no sucess. I end up having the same readings for two different stars, in opposite ends of the sky. I also dont get encoder readings under ScopeControl.

Just to make this flow a bit better, ill write step by step what im doing... Oh and by the way, its a O2 XDA lli running windows mobile 2005.
So...the program lives on an sd card, that is inserted into the pda. PDA is connected by a serial cable (female) to male to male serial to female serial socket on eks box. Start astromist. Set time, date and location. Go to general settings 1/6 scope drive dave ek, connection, tried both persistent and upon need. scope port Com1 (only one available). Alignment astromist 2 stars. other pages changed to personal preference, mount azimuth etc etc. Click on telescope image, go to 2 star alignment. star 1 antares. I find it in my scope, click read. star 2 altair, find it, click read. the scope ra and dec readings for stars 1 and 2 are exactly the same. Try again.
I select antares and altair. point at antares and click read, point at altair and click read. same co-ords. I manually change the co-ords and click align, then turn the scope, no change on astromist. I'm out of ideas! Connect box to laptop, open up terminal, get readings...i know it works. Must be something really really stupid that ive missed. HELP!
