DIY Binocular Mount Question

Hi All

Was a nice sunny day here today so thought id try my luck at building a better mount for my 25 x 80 Bino's.

Seems to be coming along ok, decided why not use the whole verandah as a tripod as that wont budge like a standard tripod might.

Only problem im having is trying to work out how to mount the binoculars and wondered if anyone might have some cheap-ish solutions at all.

Any tips or advice would be welcome

P.S I know it doesnt look the best but hopefully it will keep them more steady than my cheap tripod im currently using.

actually it looks pretty good-whether it works well or not will possibly be dependent on how much vibration is transmitted

I was thinking maybe buying some sort of swivel joint or ball type thing for mounting the bino's might have to have a hunt around ebay for something i can use.

What about a parallelogram mount? (sometimes they're called pantographs) Although you've still got to have some way of swivelling the binos around in altitude and azimuth.

Perhaps a photographic-type gimbal mount might help - see here - the idea is that you can swivel and swing the binos if you can see how the idea behind the device works

I have used ram mounts
Locally I get them from http://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM-Mounts
I used "B" size ok, just for the WO 10x50 a bit too much flex for 10x70's at some angles
I have a manfrotto tripod with a ball head, manual screw not joystick
handles the weight OK...and copes with the abuse as well. I was trying to duplicate this with the ram mounts

Other thing yu could do is rig up some PVC tube cut in half to support bins & use Velcro strapping to hold it check the article section for directions
