S T R E T C H E D Iris

Taking a little break from the vdB catalog, I decided to image NGC7023 again. I haven't done it since 2007. I really like this target since it was the target that got me interested in shooting dust.

This time I decided to image NGC7023 for a modest exposure time and stretch the data like crazy to see what dust I missed before. This is what I came up with:

http://www.tvdavisastropics.com/astr...s-1_0000ca.htm

The data was G2V balanced and care was taken to the histogram during the steps of processing so I think that the slight magenta cast in some of the stellar regions is real. Possibly a reddening effect of the intervening dust?

This is not your usual Iris; I hope you like it.

Very nicely done. Did a great job in maintaining the whole dynamic range. Colors and details are superb.

Another nice bit of work, a bit different from your usual creations can't quite put my finger on what it is.... Lack of diffraction spikes, or the color of the dust ?

Very nice. It has a brighter more vivid aspect than your usual images.

I see you've joined the FSQ club!! I can't wait to see your images from your AP Honders Riccardi.

Greg.

Interesting comparing yours and Paramounts recent image of the same object, like em both, quite different. You have certainly stretched it !. Excellent work.

Amazing shot Tom. Would be fun to have a go just to see (I'm sure) just how amazing the data and processing really is.

What objects would you suggest novices try in the southern hemisphere for dust just out of interest? M42, or Antares region maybe?

I picked this non-N FSQ a year ago or so. It is a nice little scope and was inexpensive.

You have numerous targets. You can see many dusty targets at my website www.tvdavisastropics.com.

M42, Corona Australis, Dark Doodad, pretty much anywhere in the southern sky!

Yeh looks pretty cool to me, quite different to other versions to date and stretching is the go if you want to show up that faint dirt

Lovely work Tom.
Some beautiful detail within the reflection with lots of interesting dusky areas.
Vibrant colours and a great corroboration between the fast ASA and Q..
best of both worlds.

All the best
Rich
