Jupiter Aug 29th RGB & hi res IR of merger

Hi ALL,

Was able to image the two white ovals in the NEB again last night. I have now had 4 straight nights of capturing data and tonight is also looking good.

The seeing for this session was about 6/10 and I have 3 RGB's of the ovals that are fair, however my trusty 807nm IR Planet Killer has produced some very hi res images from this session.

I have attached 3 RGB's and 3 807nm IR images, in each image I have a 130% resized inset of the ovals.
In the hi res IR images the morphology of these dancing ovals can be seen to have changed considerably since the most excellent images of Birds from Aug 28th. The two ovals are much more elongated, however there is still a very fine but well defined line to be seen, which is the border between them.

Note also the shadow transit of Calisto near the Sth pole, not sure if I can recall seeing a shadow transit so close to the pole previously.

Thanks for looking.

Regards
Trevor

Looks like you had slightly better seeing than I did Trevor. I thought it was around 5/10 or average with some peaks of 6/10. You have slightly better detail than I do, which stands to reason.

Nice detail Trevor.

Very nice images again Trevor. I also got the Callisto shadow, but seeing was only 2-3/10, couldn't use a barlow. Jupiter was like looking at it through water. All the best.

Thanks Bird, just not getting quite good enough seeing to put together hi res RGB's but with the sensitivity of the Flea at the red end of the spectrum my 807nm IR filter is cutting through the crap and producing some very nice results.

Thanks Paul, reckon this is why I favour adapting a 1 to 10 scale. There really are several levels between poor and good where it is possible to capture data with measureable detail that is of scientific interest and just poor or just good doesnt really descibe the levels that we see, at least in my humble opinion.

Thanks Matt, the mind is willing but the body is beginning to falter, looking forward to some sleep.

Sorry to hear about that Lester, you have had a shocking run this year. Hope it turns around for you through Sept for opposition.

Nice set of images Trevor. The IR images compliment the RGB really well.
