Playing Chopin's Impromptu No. 3 Opus 51

Hi everyone, one of my other hobbies is playing classical piano and I have recently begun recording my playing when I finish learning a particular piece. I find that once I dive into the next piece then the previous one is quickly forgotten, at least to the point where I can no longer play it without too many mistakes So to ensure that all the practice hours are not in vain I now record my efforts once I have mastered something to a reasonable standard.

I thought I would share my latest accomplishment in case there are any other piano enthusiasts here?

This is Chopin's Impromptu No. 3 Opus 51: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJagJO8XwjM

Hope you enjoy, and all comments and critique is welcome.

Regards,
Rolf

Rolf,

a beautiful piece played equally beautifully.

I"ve been trying to teach myself to play piano for some years now, and alas I'm finally resigned to the fact that I will have to get tuition if I'm to make more substantial use of the majestic Yamaha Grand I have in the front room.

But your piece is inspirational Rolf. l look forward to hearing more in the near future.

Best wishes

Very nice interpretation Rolf.A little more effort with dynamics would help nail it. Listen to Cziffra's version. All the same, great skill on the piano and Astrophotography.:thumbsu p:

I notice in your video you have no music on the music holder. Do you play by ear? If you were able to read as you play, you wouldn't forget it so badly and could play it again easily by folowing the score.
Good effort, but needs a bit more feeling. Nice to see someone doing classical music.
Is Chopin your favourite? What about Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, to name a few?

Thank you very much Paul A Yamaha grand that's awesome, lucky you! I must get myself one of those some day... Of course after I get a big CCD cam and a 20" RC and... oh well

Thank you David It's not perfect I agree, I might record another version some time. Unfortunately it's difficult to find time between work and when my 9 month old son needs his quiet sleep At least astrophotography is pretty quiet.

I learn from the score, but to play these kinds of pieces you have to learn it by heart - sort of like riding a bicycle. Once you think too much about what you are doing, you loose track. You can't focus on where the individual fingers go, at least only very limited. If it was a slower/simpler piece then certainly yes, one could look to the score for aid while playing, but generally not with Chopin So the score would only be useful for learning it all over again if I had to start from scratch, if that makes sense?

Yes Chopin is my favourite, but I've played Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Debussy and may others too, they are all great.

Oh how I wish I could play. Well done!
Having inherited a Bosendorfer, I have been teaching myself for many years. I can now master such rippers as "Little brown jug" and "Home on the Range" Well it's a start I guess
Oh by the way, I havent really got a real Bosendorfer - it's a Steck pianola that I have rescued from the scrap heap - 100 years old. I completely restored the action, and am now working on the pneumatics
