Vela SNR Mosaic in Blended Colour and Narrow Band

Collected full colour data set of six frames of essentially the same area of Vela as I had in HA and O3.

This is a blend of colour and narrow band. I used a method I think I just invented. More of that later. Meanwhile just enjoy the image.

Extra large image 18MB

Even the extra large image is about half the size (in pixel dimensions) of the original data.

Utterly Amazing...

Its really great to see close ups of little bits and pieces of this area, but to see the whole shebang in one epic frame makes it look phenomenal!

I was wondering, are you able without going too far out of your way, to create a version of this with some labels on it? There are a few areas of the SNR I'd love to image, but I just don't know where to point the scope with my limited FOV to pick them up...

Fantastic work mate, A seamless, breathtaking mosaic of one of the southern skies' true marvels.

Alex.

Thanks for the superlatives. I have been trying to get a decent mosaic of this region for about three years. This is not an overnight success!

I can do better than that Alex.

Colour gradients are the main problem I have with widefields and it is even worse with mosaics. Narrow band gets me the dim stuff without any colour gradients and normal one shot colour gives me the star colours and brighter bits. The trick then is to combine colour and NB and still look 'natural'. I have figured out a completely new method.

This looks really interesting Bert.
I can only imagine how hard it is to achieve this latest mosaic ... seems astrophotographers just keep finding difficult stuff to do once they master the latest difficulty.

By the look of this ... you'll be in that boat again soon

Looks fantastic
