Overseas of local?

I use direct deposit for within australia, or paypal for overseas.

There's a thread last week (in this forum, scroll down a bit) discussing paypal (pros and cons), have a read.

I'd ask him to direct deposit into your bank account. When you see the money in your account, then send the goods.

otherwise, ask for a money order. He can send them from the post office. When you get them, just cash them at the bank.

If your talking about your LX200 being sold then I would definetly be doing what Mike said..wait till the money is deposited or the check has been cleared before sending anything.

Just give him your bank details...if he has not set his computer up to do online banking he can just go into the bank and do a bank transfer into your account...it's by far the quickest way....it can take 48 hours to be deposited depending on the banks...if he uses the same bank as you the deposit's can be instant.....like westpac to westpac.

He sounds like he doesn't trust you if he doesn't want to do a direct deposit. It is the easiest and quickest method!

The only other choice if he doesn,t trust you,is COD,
BUT,that is expensive to do.

AS everybody else has said, the normal thing to do,is YOU get the money, and THEN,you send the goods.
AT least that is the way it works on Ebay, and most other outlets.
Regards.

If the person is cautious I would push them to cover the cost of COD , its a incredible bargain as it is , theres no way i would be sending goods off before i got the full payment

For the record (as the buyer in this situation) I had suggested we use the services of Escrow Australia (http://www.escrowaustralia.com.au). I found this service by checking http://ebay.com.au to see what they suggest for high value transfers, they suggest escrow for values over $400. The ebay page http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/buy/payment.html) describes the pros/cons of various payment methods, including escrow.

Using an escrow service such as this I as the buyer would place the money in trust with the escrow service, the seller ships the goods and provides the tracking details to the escrow service. Once the goods arrive the buyer has a pre-arranged period (typically 48 hours) to accept or return the goods. If the goods are accepted the cash is transferred to the seller, if the goods are returned the buyer must provide tracking details to the escrow service for its return journey. If the goods aren’t accepted or returned the money automatically gets transferred to the seller after the 48 hours. Obviously if the goods don’t get sent in the first place the money gets returned to the buyer.

The Terms and Conditions of the escrow service (which lists in detail the transaction I described above) can be read here: http://www.escrowaustralia.com.au/tandc.php

Using an escrow service provides both the buyer and seller the greatest level of protection.

Anyway Brad and I have come to an alternative arrangement but I thought the members of the forum might be interested in the details of the most secure method to handle large value transactions over the web.

HTH,

Matt

Although it sounds like a great method to use with strangers, it sounds like a major hassle!

Seeing as you are both fairly new members and know nothing about each other, it sounds like the way to go if you can't come to any other compromise.

Yep, you are right that the escrow service adds a bit of complexity.

However, having spoken to Brad a few times by phone and email my confidence level has increased and I think we have come to an alternative that we are both happy with.

Excellent!

It's a pity the world is the way it is, that we can't all trust each other. Glad you guys sorted it out.
