Planets converging

Hi all,

Here's a quick image of the 4 evening planets this evening, taken from my local park in Brisbane. Mercury is at greatest elongation east tomorrow evening, and will then start returning towards the Sun. The other 3 planets will be within 5 degrees of each other from Sunday evening. And then of course the Moon will join ther scene on the 12th and 13th! So still lots more nice photo opportunities coming up...

This image was processed with the GIMP (in fact GIMP Portable) - first time I've played with it on my laptop. It seems to do most of the things that PS7 does, but not all.

Anyway, here's the image.

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks Carl!

Yes, it's not a bad spot for this sort of thing, but having just looked at Peter Ward's light pollution comparison in the Deep Space section, it does have its limitations!

Cheers,
Stephen

Yeah. Brisbane is one to talk about light pollution...with Southbank lit up like it is and that stupid ferris wheel (or whatever it is) lit up like a lightsabre!!!! It's a wonder anyone on it could see anything outside the wheel with lights like that. The glare would be horrendous!!!. It's that bright, all you'd have to do is add a few low lying clouds to hide the surroundings and the people on it would believe they're at the "Pearly Gates"!!!
