Exclamation Light Pollution

Hi all
quick question as I dont really know where to start.

A couple of months back I noticed a very bright beam of light to the south of my house. I didnt give it much thought as there are a lot of retail/buildings going up around here, I thought it may be gone by now.

Well my wife was driving me back from the hospital last week (micro discectomy for anyone who has had the pleasure ) and it just hit me in the face from between the houses, the new catholic church has been completed and has 2 huge halogen/magnesium lights shining straight up at the cross (mostly missing it i must add) it looks like one of those search lights from world war II.The light is actually right on the flight path too, so I cant see that the council would have approved it.

I will try and get a photo of this but have to be careful lifting anything for the next few weeks. (might try and coax the kids to do it for me, if they come out of their rooms for long enough )

My question....where do I start and who can I speak to to get this resolved.
I want to continue to take AP's of this area once my back has settled down.

Thanks in advance

Mart

I would approach the church pastor and explain the situation nicely to him/her. Ask if there is any way they could minimise or reduce the lighting or if it is even needed at all. A couple of smaller lights closer to the cross will still make it visible to passers by, but wouldn't light up the whole sky. They will also cost their parish less to run and replace.

Perhaps they could use directional shades to direct the light onto the cross only, not the whole sky.

As part of your argument, you could tell them that their lights are making it hard for everyone to see and enjoy the Lords creation up there.
