Talking Sommersby Falls

Hi guys and gals.

The family and I went to Sommersby Falls (near Gosford) on Sunday. Here's some shots from the day.

I'm pretty happy with some of them. "falls5" (the first attachment) is my favourite, and probably one of my best shots ever.

Jacob was kind enough to walk in to the shot during the exposure, in the 7th attachment He was taking his own photo with a disposable kodak.

All shots were taken with the 350D and standard 18-55 lens, combined with a circular polariser and 6x ND filter. Most of the shots had an exposure of 10s at f/22.

Comments welcome.

Great photos Mike,

I love that water effect you achieved. Always wanted to do that.

Do you have any shots without the filters? Just wanted to see how much of a difference they make.

Thanks Andrew. I didn't take any shots without the filter, but I imagine the shots would be much brighter, especially if I used the same exposure.

From the ebay product:
Quote:
This dark Neutral Density can reduce 2.5 stops, for example if your meter reads 1/8000 second, this filter can reduce it to 1/1500 second. It is very useful for today's light sensitive digital camera when you want wide open aperture to achieve shallow depth of field or slow shutter speed to achieve blur effect
It allowed me to take a longer exposure to get the water blurring without overexposing.

With my old digicam (which had limited f/stops) I could only do a couple of seconds before it was overexposed.

long exposures on waterfalls are fun

I took some shots of a "waterfall" on the weekend too near bundanoon. I used short exposures and closer shots to catch splashes
