Simple. The 10" wholesale price is *much* higher (can't give you a reason), and they have nearly double the shipping cost.

One would think an 10" hyperbolic would be more difficult to fabricate & coat.

l appreciate the bigger it is the more expensive it becomes but that much?
much of the R&D would have already been done in the initial model.

Because they can charge that much and people will buy it. Remember when the first of the 8" GSO RC's were released they commanded a 3K price tag. Now you can buy the updated version from Andrews for $1499.00. If you want one, wait for a bit as the price will probably fall especially if they produce a 12" version.

If you are happy to settle for the white aluminium tube version (as I was) you only need to pay $1800 more than the 8" version.

I love the scope and all I want to get now is a suitable focal reducer and so if anyone knows of one that will work for an RC scope, please let me know.

It's great at F8 but if I can also get it down to around F6 then I'd have it all

Cheers,
Luke

I used to use a 72mm Tak FS102 F6 reducer on my RCOS 12.5 inch and it worked quite well. I used to get some elongated stars in the corners of an STL11 camera.

So depending on the size of chip it would be fine. Anything up to DSLR size I reckon would be OK.

Greg.

This might sound harsh but any other 10" RC costs 10,000 dollars. R&D is not the issue. It is more work to produce a Hyperbolic mirror that is 10 inches than an 8 inch. The carbon fibre tube costs more too. teh build quality is nicer too than the 8". However this scope is still $5000 cheaper than the RCOS version. I don't get what you expect here. We are lucky we can buy this sort of scope for this low price. Like Peter said, they cost more wholesale. Maybe GSO wants to make some money on these scopes??

you don't get it Paul, l'm not complaining about the price of either scope.
the price disparity between the two just makes no sense.
l'm not saying l expect anything, my initial question was purely on price.
the reason it's $5000 cheaper than an RCOS is because it isn't one.
