Moon and Bats

Well it is raining again and whats to do but play with images.
I have been trying to get a bat (from the local flying fox community) in front of the Moon but the weather put an end to that idea. But by combining the Moon shot from the other night and the flying fox shots of the same night in photo shop we have this. Not really an astro shot but it is raining so please forgive me.

Stunning Alex, it works, you could easily pass it off as as the real deal. Talk about setting a mood ... you could sell this one of for the next Harry Potter poster series

Thanks for that I felt a little guilty putting it here but the weather is driving me round the twist (more than usual).
The colony numbers at least 100,000 (maybe up to 250,000) but it is unbelievably hard to get a decent shot of just one.

Always been fascinated with bats we only get the micro bats around here , used to have some roosting in the observatory shed.

Going batty? that is indeed a reprospective observation of that I have no doubt. just look at the sky here make sure you click for the larger image so you can see the bats. We need help giving them all names
