M8_Lagoon Nebula

Hi all

Last night was a clear, cold night here in the west ... it got down to zero degrees where I am ... long after I had called it quits though

I went out the observatory just before sunset to set up in hope of the breeze dying down and thankfully it did. I was able to get the camera temp down to -20C immediately and sat on that for the next 5 hours or so.

It's been a while since I've done anything what with farmers burning off etc ... so here you go ... this is M8.

Nice image Steve - some nice contrast with the dust clouds there!
I know what you mean about burn-offs I live on Bowen Mt and it seems in the winter (when skies are best) everyone is either burning off piles of bush, backburning or maybe just running their fireplaces all providing some smoke haze!!
Anyway, I'm doing a H0ughy all tonight as well - mainly on M17.

Nice one Steve. It has been a while since we have seen much from you but it looks like you are not out of practice. Great detail, focus and colour.
Well done.

Nice crack of the whip,

Have you tried running a light deconvolution over it? The image is nice but i think that it could just give it that extra lift

Top shot. All the ingredients are here. Superb data. Just need to tweak your colour balance (i.e channels). Bit red at the moment. Well done again.

Cheers Marc .... glad you like it ! Depending on my eyes relative to my LCD monitor it looks ok ... if I move a little one way it does look a bit red but then if I move again it looks fine ... so I don't know ... could be my ageing eyes
I was happy with the data though ... focus, guiding, temperature etc were all pretty good that night.
