Any Adelaidians about?

Ive been into astronomy few a few months now and Ive started to gather that its gonna be lonely hobby for me. Its all happening here on IIS but getting out there and getting the experience first hand is heaps exciting. Ive been able to tag along with mates camping but they're more interested in siting around the fire beer blabbing, which is still fun, but big camp fires are like a hand grenade to night vision. They're all around the fire and there's me, a hundred meters away in the dark on my own. Sometimes it's peaceful and id prefer to be alone, but sometimes it'd be awesome to be with someone who's experienced and likes to share what they know. This is what would happen at a star party/meeting i guess, but i really don't like the sounds of strapping my scope to my back and riding my pushy half way across the country. So this has got me asking,

Is there any one here from northern Adelaide?

Hi StellariuS,

I'm sure there'll be a few Adelaideans here somewhere, but have you tried the Astronomical Society of South Australia?
They'll have viewing nights and star parties, and probably some members in your neck of the woods.

Oh, and WELCOME TO IIS.

Southern Adelaidian here, but ASSA is the go. There are plenty of members from the northern suburbs and I am sure you can find an observing buddy through the society. Just got to the next meeting and ask if anyone lives in the northern suburbs.

There's a few of us around IIS!
I'm out here in Hahndorf.
Like Paul says try ASSA, but once you've become a known entity on the forum I'm sure there will be others open to sharing observing nights.
All the best and welcome aboard
Doug

Ive checked out ASSA but i would like to wait until i get my own transport before joining. otherwise id read about upcoming events and sigh lol. The nearest decent location is the Stockport observatory, 100kms away. Hopefully a kind being from around here will pop up.

If your out north could you get to the Heights Observatory, Modbury? The next public night is this Friday.

Gday Jayden
I'm in the Barossa, not too far from the Stockport Observatory. Have recently joined ASSA myself, and hope to get along to the next star party
You'll love it here on IIS..It is a bottomless pit of knowledge and friendly, helpful people. I've learned heaps!
Welcome aboard!

Yeah, not too bad - allows me to dabble in a bit of astrophotography.
Cheers

I'm born and raised Adelaidian, does that count? Northern Suburbs to be exact.

I don't get to go down to Adelaide much (once a year at most), but when I do it's to visit my parents in Roseworthy. Beautiful skies out there, but I'm yet to do any real astronomy there as yet. Bit difficult flying with the gear I have, but I'm working on getting a smaller more portable setup using the Stellavue.

I'll have to get my Dad into Astronomy (he's a retired Science Teacher), so he can build an observatory for me.....I mean for his benefit.
