My car was stolen a few years ago. I was standing outside Bunnings with a mate and each of as had a trolley full of powertools. I phoned the police to report it ... the guy I spoke to all but laughed in his concern for my stolen car ... told me to come to the station to report it. I said Im reporting it now .. he said, no, cant do that I have to come to the station .. I said Ive told you if you were even listening, Im outside Bunnings with two trolleys full of gear, I cant come to the station .. oh he said, well we'll come to you .. I said that sounds great .. he said should be able to be there in about 6hrs .. cant type here what I said .. anyway he had my mobile number and the conversation ended ... within 5 mins of that my mobile rang .. same cop .. WHERE ARE YOU !!!! I said sheezus mate ... ya dont have to yell, I told you, Im outside Bunnings with two trolleys full of gear ... DONT MOVE .. ARE YOU AWARE THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS JUST BEEN USED IN AN ARMED BANK ROBBERY !!!! .. I said I am now ... RIGHT, DONT MOVE WE ARE COMING STRAIGHT OVER ... I said, now THATS the sort of service I was hoping for.
My point is, unless there is some other important reason the police dont give two hoots about your stolen car and they are definately not going to be driving around looking for it.
So for mine .. its all about bux.
I did see a news report the other day though that showed a new automated camera surveillance system in patrol cars that looked at number plates and instantly alerted the patrol about the status of a vehicle if it was something that should be of interest to them, ie stolen, owner was banned from driving etc.
Maybe this is to pay for that equipment
