going through carparks to book people for not locking their cars.

Police buget to attend so many broken in or stolen vehicles is quite high. I agree that some enforcement is needed as we expect the police to find the vehicle usually littered on the road or burn't out bushfire dangers.

Not sure what it has to do with Mark Webber though.

Nanny State.

If people lose a car ( not a Ferrari ), and no kids are in it,
the police normally dont appear to care too much,
unless its found by accident,
its just the insurance companies.

My car was stolen a few years ago. I was standing outside Bunnings with a mate and each of as had a trolley full of powertools. I phoned the police to report it ... the guy I spoke to all but laughed in his concern for my stolen car ... told me to come to the station to report it. I said Im reporting it now .. he said, no, cant do that I have to come to the station .. I said Ive told you if you were even listening, Im outside Bunnings with two trolleys full of gear, I cant come to the station .. oh he said, well we'll come to you .. I said that sounds great .. he said should be able to be there in about 6hrs .. cant type here what I said .. anyway he had my mobile number and the conversation ended ... within 5 mins of that my mobile rang .. same cop .. WHERE ARE YOU !!!! I said sheezus mate ... ya dont have to yell, I told you, Im outside Bunnings with two trolleys full of gear ... DONT MOVE .. ARE YOU AWARE THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS JUST BEEN USED IN AN ARMED BANK ROBBERY !!!! .. I said I am now ... RIGHT, DONT MOVE WE ARE COMING STRAIGHT OVER ... I said, now THATS the sort of service I was hoping for.
My point is, unless there is some other important reason the police dont give two hoots about your stolen car and they are definately not going to be driving around looking for it.
So for mine .. its all about bux.

I did see a news report the other day though that showed a new automated camera surveillance system in patrol cars that looked at number plates and instantly alerted the patrol about the status of a vehicle if it was something that should be of interest to them, ie stolen, owner was banned from driving etc.

Maybe this is to pay for that equipment

They have a similar system in London. As you enter the city centre your number plate is scanned by fixed CCTV cameras and matched with warrants/rego/licences and patrols sent out after you if you're naughty

Fully agree, but who's really getting em
( perhaps its needed to help offset to overruns in Myki and the new dumb electricity meters. )

And on that topic, ( of whats worth it ), some nutters chucked a rock off an overpass near where i live 2 days ago. When asked why they dont put up safety barriers to stop this stuff, the govt minister responsible said it wasnt required. ( Probably because there are too many to do )
Its OK to spend millions putting barriers on our West gate Bridge to stop people killing "themselves", but its not required to put up barriers to stop others killing/attempting to kill innocent drivers.
