Saturn from Glebe

Hi,

I have decided to get back into a bit of AP. This is my 2nd attempt at a bit of planetary photography.

Image 1
C11 @ F10
DBK 21 focussed with bahtinov mask, bw codec
Registrax with about 3000 frames

Image 2
C11 @ F20, 2 inch Powermate
DBK 21 focussed with bahtinov mask, bw codec
Registrax with about 3000 frames

Image 3
C11 @ F20, 2 inch Powermate
DBK 21 focussed with bahtinov mask, Debayered
Registrax with about 3000 frames

The seeing was rather poor that night, and there was plenty of ambient light which probably doesnt matter for planetary? Also because of a sore back was shooting through a diagonal.

Any comments welcome.

Cheers
Paul

Some good stuff Paul. Do you use the focus mask on Saturn? It should be done on a star. The C11 should do well.

You have to be pleased with those results. Saturn is quite difficult this apparition.

Thanks David, I used the focus mask on Arcturus before slewing to Saturn. The spike is still very unstable. Next time i will turn on noise reduction whiloe focussing as this averages 2,4,8 frames and has the effect of smoothing out the image (just for focussing).

The C11 is fine, I have a 3 by TV barlow but the seeing wasnt up to it.

Thanks Clayton, Saturn is rather small at the moment. I am pleased with my first few shots and hope to improve. If I am still going in a few months then the seeing should get better as it gets colder. I think the focus was OK as if I view the AVI the image does come into good focus periodically before the seeing destroys it.

Cheers
Paul
