I have a Nokia 1680 classic that has some photos on it that I need to get on to my laptop. I've looked through the owners manual but cant find any info on how to go about it. I'm don't think the phone has bluetooth.
I may be wrong, but, you may need to acquire or obtain the Nokia Data Suite which will allow you to grab the files and messages off the phone and onto the PC.
You may be able to find cheaper eBay clones of the Data Suite.
I looked your phone up on the net and I think you may only be able to do it using MMS (MultiMedia Messaging Service) or Email if you have a phone plan that allows that your phone has the capabilities according to this website. If that is not possible I think you are completely stuck.
The phone I just got through Optus Prepaid is only $50 and it has great features that you might find useful it has bluetooth , usb connection and has a 2MP camera and takes a micro SD card to boot a great deal maybe you should consider it for future use.
Thanks all for your input. Thanks Humayan for that. I hope i don't have to, but its good to know there may be a solution. On further investigation it does seem that unless i want to get a plan and email I'm stuck, it doesn't have a usb Chris. That's what I'd been looking for.
Thanks Warren, I was thinking just those suggestions this afternoon. I'm still stuck with these photos, but a better phone may be an even smarter idea for later photos.

I've never paid for any version of Data Suite/PC Suite. It's always been downloadable from Nokia.
Oh the camera is, and i'm just on a minimum prepaid, but the pics are important even if they are disappointing.
I'm sure if the time comes, somewhere there is a somehow, they can be gotten to. I was looking for a quick easy fix like a usb or a bluetooth. Not to worry. They can stay there for the time being. Thanks guys for your help.
The Nokia suite is a free download from the website. There is a cable to connect to PC through the USB which should let you download the pics. Its got a multi pin connector to hook on to the base of the Phone.
My original work phone was very similar.
The software may be for free nowadays (good!), but, I recall when I had the classic Nokia 2110E (1997, or so), that around that time you needed to spend about $150 for a cable and software that allowed you to connect to the phone and do a few things. That was the Nokia Data Suite.
I didn't have any luck with a cable, and when i looked at the manual, what i though was a USB (much smaller than any other USB I'd seen) socket was labeled as "Note: do not touch this connector as it is ingtended for use by authorized personnel only"

There's a software called PC-Suite from the Nokia website. Just choose your model/year phone and it will direct you to the corresponding download. Once the phone is plugged in with a USB connection it will be recognised as a device and you'll be able to access the phone memory or memory card.

You are right. I've got a 2110 in the cupboard somewhere and I had to buy Data Suite for it. All my later 6xxx and 2xxx came with a software CD. It's the cable they make their money on these days. Roll on the standard the manufacturers agreed on a while back - all phones to use micro USB for power and PC connection.
Paul, a quick search shows that you can get an aftermare accesory cable for that phone, they plug in to the small USB port on the side of the phone, Nokia simply say they can't guarantee operation but there are lots of anecdotal reports that it works. A search on ebay for 1680 classic data cable will turn up one for under $10 delivered. You should be able to download the nokia suite free and use it. Some more info here
