Nice Peter, now I can see where I have to extend my mosaic.
That AP155 is a nice scope, pretty much a perfect match for the STX?
Cheers

Cool - I was comparing the field with the hyperstar mosaic I started and looks like you can capture in one panel what I need approx. three to do. I can't wait you guys start doing bi mosaic like Orion area or the LMC with your big sensors. Should be quite a treat. I know, I know...it's cloudy.

The weather was not co-operating....but I did get some ropey colour data..
which can be seen here
http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery53.html
I would have liked to have tested the camera with my AP155 TCC at F5.3.. no adapters are available yet, but AP have indicated they will be providing a solution in the next few months.

Thanks Stu.....the STX with 65mm filters+wheel is a bit of a beast but certainly works well with the AP155, provided you have AP's 4" focuser/flattner. The KAF16803's extra 20% or so QE in H-Alpha, compared to the KAF11002, is quite noticable. The chip looks noise looks lower as well.
It will take me a while to work out the optimum exposure times for an RGB sequence, as both the sensor QE and filter transmissions have changed from my previous rig.... all good fun!

Thanks Martin The STX is a bit of a monster, and despite a few teething problems I can see it producing some excellent results.
BTW, do you still have the test unit?

Hi Peter
yes, still have it, but it goes back soon.
I am waiting on some bits and pieces, and then I am going to set about commissioning a new PME with sidexside guiding, new obs PC, hubs and all sorts of other stuff.
cheers

Solid images Peter, sharp contrasty and pinpoint stars edge to edge - nice....but as a fellow AP EDF user though that ain't nothing spectacular heck the FF is designed to cover 6cm X 7cm so 3.7cm X 3.7cm is nutin man
Nice to see what field I will get though, so cheers for that and now I wont need to image the dreaded Eta to find out
...if I ever get out to actually use my FLI 16803 I will be stoked

Thanks Mike...the Eta "standard candle" is pretty hard to pass up.
I recall when I ticked the (not inexpensive) AP 4" FF option, asking myself: will I *ever* need this thing??
I'm sure you'll have the FLI-cam pumping soon. I'll be of the country shortly.....so the weather is bound to be great!

Peter,
Both of those are stunning. Interesting to note that there isn't all that much hydrogen alpha and colour data yet the image is striking as is.
Cheers.

Nice test image but again quite dull. My guess is its the light pollution.
Should have more vibrancy.

Man what a huge field. Heaps of sharp detail and the colour version when completed should be amazing. Well done.

Nice images Peter. Great for such short exposures. Looking forward to something with extended exposures.
Be nice kids.
