Anyone go to the 2002 eclipse?

Hey, just thinking tonight, it is nearly two years since the eclipse. Best Astro event I ever saw. The next one I want to go to is the one in Eygpt or Libya; a four minute event.

Anyone here go to the 2002 event, just totally amazing. One thing I do say to a lot of people is that if you ever get the chance to go see a total then just do it, no matter what the cost. It makes you realise just where you fit into the scheme of things. I will never forget the colour of the sky or that fluffy donut in the sky with the slight wisps of red prominences.

Anyone want to comment?

Yep thats right. Gulf of Carpentaria right up near the top of the cape. Once again a short duration of totality perhaps longer than Ceduna. I will be going to that one for sure and the African one in two years if I can afford it.

There's two for Australia, a total eclipse on 13 Nov 2012 and an annular on the 10 May 2013, not long to wait

not even considering an annular, not the same as a total. And, very dangerous, many people forget that eye damage can still happen at an annular.

I missed the ceduna one, mainly because I wasn't really into astronomy in a big way back then, it was just a passing interest.. I worked with a guy at the time who went though, he brought back some amazing photos of the event..

Do you guys have any photos of it?

I'll definitely *try* to go to the next australian one, it's a long way off though by the sounds of it.. Isn't the next one in Turkey or something?

The avatar I have is a shot I shrank down from the eclipse, I will try to dig up the full size version of it. Other shots I took where film and I would need to digitize them. However, the reality is that the shots just pale from existence of the actual event, they just provide a pleasant memory.

Here is the shot that I like the best from the eclipse. It is just on the diamond ring phase. The sky was a funny magenta colour and the clouds were strangely coloured. Very trippy experience.

Unfortunately couldnt make it to Ceduna and will always regret that-that was about as accessible as it is going to get I suppose.
Still it was a partial in sydney and as for totality there was always Channel 9
