Bye, all!

All,

I'm heading back to the greatest place in the world -- the South Island of New Zealand for a few weeks on another photographic expedition.

The last time I went, I hired a campervan and slept wherever I wanted to. This time, I'm hiring a 4WD so that I can shake the shackles of campervan restrictions and get off the beaten path, somewhat.

My goal for this trip, weather permitting, is coastal sunrises and sunsets. Failing that, I'll be doing a lot of hiking and walking through rainforests, so, I'm bound to come across my favoured subject of water, as well as capture the essence of autumn.

I hope to return with perhaps one or two decent images.

I thought I'd leave you with a slideshow of a few images. Most likely, you've seen these before in the terrestrial imaging sub-forum.

I've set these to a soundtrack, so, if you have a few minutes, turn on your speakers, or put your headphones on and chill for a bit.

I must apologise for the image quality -- the slideshow creation software has done some funky stuff to the images and I have no idea why. So, sorry about that. Still, they're passable.

This coastline's like a long-lost friend
Giving me grounding once again
Being here with you
There's no place I'd rather be

You know we've touched on something real
With all that's good
You've given to me
You've given to me

And all those fears can keep rolling in
Surrounding beauty keeps me going
And being here with you
Nothing comes close to this

You know this is something real
With all the truth
That you've shown me
So keep me safe
And love me for good
I'm not going anywhere
I'm not going anywhere

Chat soon.

H

WOW! What a trip! You should get plenty of opportunity in the land of the long white cloud. Make sure you take a BIG CF card and a couple of spares.

God be with you on your trip mate. Stay safe, enjoy the winter and most of all, have fun!

Baz.

You lucky thing! Have a wonderful time, look forward to seeing some pics.

We were supposed to take off on a similar jaunt on May 6 and I got an email this morning to say the cat sitter I had arranged (the back up one, the first one fell through) cannot come. I had already booked and mostly paid for a Landscape Workshop at Kinloch at the head of Lake Wakatipu towards the end of May so I will lose my 50% deposit, I guess.

But I am so disappointed, been planning this for over a year now and God knows how much fares I'll get back, although I did pay the insurance option so hopefully get some back.

Have a great adventure and holiday Humayun. I look forward to the photos upon your safe return.

The slide show was simply breathtaking – I love your mastery of light and mood in these shots. I had to reach for the Geiger counter to make sure the lichens were not radioactive – they were so green and luminescent!

The sound tracks were very nice too.

Cheers

Dennis

PS – the slide number at the bottom, running from 1-39 seemed random, incrementing and decrementing during the show?

Stunning images Humayan. I can see why you want to go better armed ie Canon 5D MII and 4X4.

I still find it almost beyond comprehension that it took eons for stars to be born and die repeatedly to produce the atoms to make us and everything around us. The beyond comprehension bit is that we are even smart enough to have worked this out!

For the beauty you have captured of places I will most probably never see thank you.

Now I wish even more I could have a monitor that had the same display resolution as that of our sensors.

In the case of your 5D MII at 0.25mm pixel pitch and 5616 X 3744 pixels the monitor would be 1.4 X 0.936 meters!

Although no method of depiction can beat the reality of being there.

Enjoy your trip.

Bert
