Today I needed to ring Sony to find an authorised service centre in my area. I dialled a 1300 number listed in the phone book, You guessed it, their "call centre", or I assume it is must be in India. I got this Indian guy asking me for my address, phone number postcode etc and he put me on hold saying he would get back to me, this never happened, I waited for 10mins and hung up. Wont be buying any more sony equipment with that sort of service, they can go to buggary.
I wouldn't worry too much about buying Sony gear these days. The quality aint what it used to be. They lost the plot several years ago and started producing junk, just like half the other manufacturers out there. My old man spent thousands on Sony gear 15 or so years ago, and that stuff was top quality, nothing like what they make now.
