Canopus dancing.

I was out at Ilford last Friday and around midnight Canopus was getting close to the horizon in the west.
It was very bright and twinkling madly with changing colours, putting on it's own miniature light show.
What was really unusual, for me at least, was that it appeared to be actually moving, doing these small (about one eighth degree) erratic circles/zigzags in the sky. This was just looking at it naked eye.
Very easy to imagine a non astronomer seeing this as a UFO especially if travelling in a vehicle where spatial references might be more ambiguous.
