Markarian Chain and a dozen Messiers
Hello all
Never quite expected to pull so many galaxies out of this 4 deg x 4 deg FOV.
Taken me a good while to get this data; LRGB 5:2.5:2.5:2.5 hours with the STX/FSQ106N and Baader 65mm filters.
The image is fullsize, and at first glance it just looks like a star field until you get into the image. The Makarian chain came out well, but there are just tons of other galaxies in there.
What I am really interested in is the apparent "streamer" or jet coming off IC3481 - in between NGC 4503 and NGC 4528.

Hope you like it.
cheers
Martin

Look at that!
There's galaxies everywhere.
Have you counted them yet?? I'll sit my boys down tonight and see how many they come up with.
Thanks for posting the image Martin.

Thanks Peter/JJ
No not counted them yet, but I would sure like to hear what your boys come up with...apart from the obvious ones, the faint smudges will had a dozen more at least to the number.

Lovely vista, especially of Markarian's Chain top right quadrant.
IC 3481 and nearby IC 3481A are two interacting galaxies.

Excellent field of view. Some of the larger galaxies look pretty nice and could be a subject for the RC. Nicely rendered image.

Wow! Superlatives escape me. That is so, so deep. I imaged that area last night. The comparison ends there.

Thanks for the comments all.
Rob - thanks for the link, that surely explains that.
Paul - I agree, and I do really miss my RC - 15 months and still in the box unfortunately.
Benny - funny you should say that - I thought the same when I was processing it. What I will do now is add the 12 hours or so together and stretch the hell out of it to see what actually shows up. Good spot.
thanks again
Martin

Wonderful image! I'd love to see this one without the foreground Milky Way stars, the extra-galactic view...
