Forum login cookie
Hi guys.
A forum member is having trouble with the "Remember Me" tick box when he visits the forum.
He has to log in again every time he visits the forum, even though he has the "remember me" box checked.
Apparently it's only a recent thing - in the beginning he only had to log in once and when he returned he was still logged in.
He's using Windows XP Home.
Anyone have any suggestions as to why it may be doing this? I know for myself (and everyone else?) it's working fine, so it must be some local settings in his browser?
The forum software uses a cookie, so I imagine it must be something to do with his cookie/security settings?
Any help or suggestions you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks

I wrote to Mike off group, as this problem is driving me nuts.
I am using Mozilla Firefox, and this is the only site that I am experiencing problems with. Other sites are fine.
This site was fine as well but for some reason changed a while back. Originally I could log on the once, and never have to re-do it.
I can see in the "Cookies" section of Firefox options that some IIS cookies are "allowed" so can't see why this problem has occured.
Any other thoughts?

You might have said no to svae password at one stage to fix it goto TOOLS|OPTIONS|PRIVACY|VIEW SAVED PASSWORDS, check in the password never saved tab to see in Ice in spaceis in there.

Darren,
good plan, and you had me hopeful for a while.
I looked and sure enough it was not saved as a password item.
I deleted it altogether, and closed the browser.
On opening it asked me for a log in, of course.
I obliged, and it asked if I wanted to save the password. I said yes, and it logged on.
I checked back within the options etc and it is NOT saved as a password.
This is obviously the reason, and we are close, but not quite there.
Any other ideas, please???

Damn cookie monsters!
I had a similar problem last week with F/fox cookies, I took the easy way out and just created another profile.

I have IE and I have to type my username & password in every time. I have always had to. Same when I gave Firefox a go. It has never remembered me on either computer.

Hmm, I have no problems with this forum, and I'm using Mozilla which uses the same codebase as firefox, so I think you're on the right track when you're looking at the saved/not saved options.
But I don't think it's a password thing, if the forum uses cookies then it's going to be a "not saving cookies" issue or something.
You can check what cookies are saved, in Mozilla it's under Tools->cookie manager. When I look in there I see lots of cookies from www.iceinspace.com.au, with names like "bblastvisit", "bbpassword", "bbuserid" etc. Do you see those cookies gary?

Thanks Bird, and all the others. Yes I do, and while it is too early to start clapping, I think I may have beaten it. I'll let you know when I log on again tomorrow.
I deleted all the IIS cookies, and also the Password stuff. I found that I could "make" the browser accept the password by typing in the site URL.
It seems to have worked tonight, but I'll wait until tomorrow.

I went into 'Privacy' and I have just allowed the forum address to allow blocked cookies. I will check it next time I log on. Hopefully it will also allow me to open PM's directly too. Currently I get a window saying I have a PM blocked and I have to close 4 windows before I can go to Private messages and open it.

Me again, and don't hold your breath, but it looks like I may have cracked it.
Don't know how, but then again, I don't know how I stuffed it up in the first place.
We'll see tomorrow, when I boot it again, (not literally speaking!!). Thanks to all.

Thanks team, it seems to have worked. How I don't know, but it has.
Others that have had the same problem could possibly try the Saved Passwords in the Privacy Options.
Perseverence, and good forum advice certainly worked for me.
Thanks again.
