ICe trade classifieds

it seems to be a buyers market at the minute..there are dob's which are being lowered & lowered, even ed80 going for low prices..what has happened to all the buyers...or has everyone got their fill for the moment & are we at saturation??

With respect to scopes I remarked on this a couple of months ago, an exceptional number selling and no so many buyers. The excuse at the time was that with the $A high, many were aiming to trade up to new gear.

The exception seems to be eyepieces, some low-end ones around, but few really good ones.

I think it's been that way for a while now Daniel. Many people no longer have `toy money' and more of those who do are holding on to their cash and building up `rainy day' funds or paying down debt faster than they used to. Also, when dealing with larger items (e.g., a 12" Dob) location counts. If you live in or very close to Sydney or Melbourne then you've got a larger pool of potential buyers who can buy without the hassle of shipping. Having said that I once sent a 6" Synta refractor OTA from Melbourne to a buyer in northern Queensland

I am certainly sitting on my money and clearing up any stray debt. At the same time I am planning to make some big purchases in the near future and these items just don't come up in the classified forum very often if at all.

It's killing me! the prices are awesome and I'm keen, but my wallet isn't.
Too many bills to pay.
There's also the problem of sellers not wanting to post.

That's exactly right Simon. I wanted to buy something from IIS member from Sydney, offered him advertised price. He said he is too busy to organise shipping

I would expect when times are tight that low end priced items should be less affected than the high.

Also I think its a bit seasonal with people losing interest in cold weather.

Well ..it's a buyer market indeed.

In selling my gear, I tried to make the equipment pitched at an attractive price for a quick sale. I researched the history of sale prices and pitched around to just below those that have sold previously.

So it's on to new equipment for me, something simple. It's just a double whammy ATM as the $Aust is at basement levels!

They sold, so I cannot complain. It's the way of it.

Have I done the right thing...time will tell.
