LX200 GPS Autostar 11 update Question

Hi all this is my first post.. I have just purchased a used 10 LX200GPS scope. When I turned it on it would do all its normal stuff and then choose an alignment stare (sirius first).. Last night I decided to do a firmware upgrade and add some sats and the ISS. It took about 40 mins to do and all seemed OK..

Now when the unit starts up and does it's thing it has changed. It now asks me to press 0 to align or enter to go to the menu... Also when it aligns is just finds a bright star but does not tell me what the star is. As I am new I like the itdea of it telling me what the alignment star is so I learn to identify them. I know that it always picks the same stars but somtimes I scroll to other alignment stars.

Other than rolling back the update, is thier any way of getting this feature back? Have I missed a setting in the menu that allows me to change this? Usually when you do updates you loose your original settings..

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Martin

Gday Martin

Dunno what the original Firmware was but i assume you now have
4.2g
If so, the "align or menu prompt" cant be bypassed unless you use patched firmware.
The brightest star name can be brought up by pressing "?"
or you can go to the "Utilities" menu and set the "Brightest Star" option to off. It will then show the actual names all the time.

I like that.
We actually believe the main reason this "feature" was introduced was for beginners who didnt know the sky. Giving them a name ( vs brightest thing you can see ) was deemed too confusing

Nope
It makes a list of the brightest stars "currently visible",
in descending brightness order.
As such, it changes over the night depending on time.
Currently, Sirius will nearly always be first, but it can change.
Also, the secondary stars ( if you use 2 star mode )
will change order based on the first star selected.

Thanks Andrew for your Help.. I am sort of new to all this. up to last week I only owned a DOB (first Scope). Now I have the LX200 10". I have been doing a mod on a Toucam (works) and all the leads for my Canon D40 SLR.. I just need to make or purchase a wedge and my dream to take fuzzy pictures at a great expense begins..

Thanks again I will make changes to my settings tonight

Cheers
Martin
