Please I need some help here. I booted up my Toshiba Quomio F30 this afternoon to download some images onto my external hard drive from the last few days on the Freycinet Peninsula.
My screen froze during the bootup and then did a memory dump. I then did a reboot in safe mode to check settings etc; which were all normal but then when I rebooted I had no screen at all. I did also have a lot of short horizontal lines going vertically down the screen when I booted in safe mode.
Am I correct in thinking this is video card fault which I'm pretty sure are a GeoForce in these Quosmio's?
If my summation is correct where would I be able to get this fixed in Melb. in a couple of days.?
Anna and I will be arriving back in Melb. on the 28/2 from Tassie and will be there till the 4/3 before we start to head North again to Emerald CQ.
Most laptops have a VGA port for external monitor might be an idea to plug one in to see if the computer works with this to confirm whether screen problem or video card
Sounds Nasty can you boot back in with Safe mode if so you might need do a restore if possible. When you start the computer does it look like it is going you know hdd lights and such if it looks like it is going try to plug a monitor in just in case the laptop screen died the lines are either the Screen or the graphics I believe. I have been wrong before. I hope it is not too serious and I hope these suggestions help. If I think of anything else I will post them.
When you booted after safe mode, you didnt mention whether you got any sort of black and white "DOS" boot screen before windows loaded up?
If you can see ANYTHING (text, press F11, Press DEL for setup etc) before windows starts and you see the logo, then I think you have a driver issue with the last update which probably caused the blue screen of death.
If you can see anything on boot up, then the screen should be OK, if you can, then press F8 during power up to get the boot loader screen and select "load last known good configuration" and see if this helps.
I saw a few posts regarding BSOD after updates and this could be one of those instances.
Thanks guys, I had to start packing stuff away in the van again late this arvo. as we're on the move again tomorrow. I'll give your suggestions a try in the next couple of days.
Hate to say it but your video card is FUBAR. This would involve a replacement of the laptop mainboard. Unless this is covered by warranty this won't be a cheap replacement.
