Two great nebulae: Carina and Orion

Hello all,

Here's two recent images of Orion and Eta Carina, taken with the WO FLT132, flat68, Canon 400D unmodded, and EQ6 with EQMOD. All subs were guided with piggybacked Orion ED80 and DSI II pro.

Eta Carina:
6hr 40min of 10min ISO400 subs
I'm not sure about the colour balance on this one, but overall I'm happy that the details came out fine. I have attached a 50% res crop of the keyhole section.

Orion:
This is a L+OIII R G+OIII B+OIII blend, with OIII at 40% opacity.
8hr 10min of 10min ISO200 RGB subs through the FLT132
10hr of 10min ISO400 OIII subs through the ED80
This is a repo + new data. The original post is here: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=54634
I left the nebula a bit greener than usual, due to the OIII, hope this is ok. There is a lot of red dust in the area that when blended with LP made colour balancing confusing.

Again thanks for looking,
George

Nice low noise shots. colours are a little flat but that can be sorted by doing some curves work.

Nice noise free images but as Paul said the colour is a little flat, particularly the Orion image. Both images seem a little milky looking. It may be the blend which has caused this effect.

That's some serious exposure time George and it has paid off, nice job, I like your sword shot it looks quite delicate and the colours are different but look good

Yeah I agree, I didn't stretch the colours as much as I should've, probably was worried about the noise. I've played with colour balance and levels a bit, hopefully its more pleasing. With the Orion I've toned down the green, I think that was throwing things off a bit.

It might also be that I didn't do any USM that you usually see in Orion images. I don't like the unnatural look of USM, but its purely a personal taste thing. Could also be an artifact left from noise reduction procedures...
