Saturn 8 January 2010

On the same night I captured images of Mars and Lunar craters I also captured this image of Saturn. Nice to see it so early in the season.

Fine image just a question I assume seeing plays a dominant part in being able to clearly define the cloud bands on both Saturn and Jupiter ??

Trevor seeing plays a huge roll in obtaining cloud data. However, since Saturn is so far away it often means that bands can be seen with no actual detain visible, barring the occassional large storm that emerges. Our telescopes just don't have the resolution to pick up the detail such as on Jupiter.

With Saturn if you can capture the crepe ring, Cassini's division and maybe definition between the belts you are doing well.

Very Nice Paul,

I had a visual on Saturn the other night and also had a gander at the polar ice caps on Mars through the 12" dob and was blown away!

Nice pic

Cheers

Chris
