Angry Someone Stole my Photo!

I was thankfully sent an email by someone this morning who recognised a photo on someone's flickr stream as a crop of my Smiley Face Conjunction photo. The photo on flickr is called Clouds, and you can clearly see it's a crop of my image.

I posted a comment demanding that the photo be removed, but the user deleted my comment and blocked me from posting further comments. I also sent them an email demanding it be removed. I have reported the copyright infringement to the Yahoo Copyright Infringement people, and hopefully they will do something about it.

I'm very disappointed and angered that someone would do this. I wonder what other photos on this users stream are stolen!?

Have you ever had this done to you? What other action can you take?

If you're a member on flickr and you're as outraged as me, perhaps consider leaving a negative comment. It will probably get deleted but it might help all the same.

It is most certainly a crop of your image Mike. I pulled both into Photoshop and placed the crop over yours, stretched a little to compensate for re-scaling and voila! It matches precisely.

In the second image I've translated the crop a little and applied a 50% opacity so that you can see though it to the layer below. It's undeniably yours. Flick back and forwards between them.

I think that this is her on FB: http://www.facebook.com/aicha.s3?ref....2865476095..1

Mmm, thats amazing ... i suppose a small part of you can take it as a compliment, and the larger part outraged, unbelievable for sure!!!
How often does this happen? We would never know, but could be huge ..... even having your name on them can be cropped, geeze!!

Looks like her - er your photo - has won an award looking at the user comments. I would also write to the awards people and complain to them that the photo is stolen.

This sucks big time, I hope they remove the photo. She is problably making money from stolen photos...

Yep - I posted a negative comment and she's deleted it and blocked me. I've also reported abuse on this to Flickr directly. Pathetic.

The person that alerted me to it followed up and said:

Quote:
If you contact the party that posted it she will just delete the comment or ignore it,she's been lifting photo from webshot and so on then crops then to hide the watermark or to disguise it
So they probably don't care, until their account is removed from flickr, and they'll probably sign up again and do it all again.

Hi Mike

There must be some security features that you can build into the publication of your photos - it maybe worth checking out.

Cheers Petra d.

Glad to see it's gone now!

She'll probably just do it again to someone else, or under a different alias.

When I was young 25 I was a part time photographer, a lot of my photos ended up in calendars and ells were, it seems copies were taken when they were developed by Agva and there is nothing you can do if it is a big company that does it
That's life

As a wedding & portrait photographer for 25 years ( Now retired) I can tell you that the world wide copyright laws are not in forcable or do the police inforce these laws. I had many of my works stolen & one beutiful nude i did of a model on a Harley was pinched by a phone sex company.

The only way you can stop this on line is to put a water mark on your image right in the centre.

It should be possible to prohibit images from being copied from the forum. I know that some people assist in image manipulation but it should be just as easy to be asked and the image forwarded or some other way of logging image transfers.

Man, that sux!!!!

Once I was helping a friend move and there hanging on the wall was one of my motorcycle pics. The owner been taken it off the the web and enlarged and printed it on a home printer. It looked bloody awful.
Even had the watermark on it. If he had asked I probably given it to him.

I dunno.....Some people just think they're being clever
