AAMI Rescued Us

Hi All,

This is a happy ending saga.

We purchased this house 6 yrs ago from a shrewd Italian couple. They installed an above ground pool into the ground. Cheap but effective. It caused no end of concern. Skimmer box too small, chlorine levels difficult to control, etc.

Feb09 I decided, come winter this pool is going and a new one to go in.

May 09. Not quite winter, a queensland rainstorm sends down 400mm in two days.
When it was over I ventured out. An entire side of the pool collapsed. and the rest was looking bad.

Hello AAMI, ... They sent out an engineer and a long story shortened. They paid out the equivalent of 21 ten or twelve inch Dobs, take your pick. WOW.

I was informed from a number of sources that only AAMI would even consider the claim.

We are installing a concrete pool, that is invulnerable to storm damage, thanks to AAMI.

Photos of before and the present follow. The pool is under construction and more pix will follow.

I feel that AAMI made a fair assessement and that is why I have posted this.

Cheers Marty

Hi Matt,

They seem to me to be the more honest of all the insurance companies.

Cheers Marty

PS check out the photos you jumped in as I was editing. My fault.

Hi jjj,

Thanks.

Over six years we have made several claims and AAMI has done good every time. We had to have our hail dented roof replaced and the shed roof as well. Another incident, lightning strike took out the spa, computer and dvd players. All fixed by AAMI.

Cheers Marty

New Pool Progress

Hi All,

Its been a hard slog but the pool is 'swimmable'
The pavers bedding has been a lot of work. Have had to contend with rain and heat on sunny days.

Cheers Marty

Yes. Thumbs up to AAMI. When I first moved here they were the only one who'd insure my car!
Nice pool BTW. When can we all come over?

Hi Peter,
I am considering a pool party soon. After the paving is done. Don't want crusher dust in the pool.

Cheers Marty

I am glad you had a good experience with AAMI.

The repairer they insisted I use after an accident tried to deliver my car back with still broken parts and a poorly aligned front bumper. They also failed to fix the leaky water hose which could have led to a destroyed engine. I offered to pay the difference in costs to use my preferred repairer, but they refused. The difference in labour charges between repairers was about $100. I have taken my business elsewhere and will never darken their doorstep again.

Car insurance is cut-throat stuff. The people who make the decisions are different to the ones managing house policies. I don't use AAMI for car insurance.

Some years ago I had some items stolen from my shed. AAMI would not pay out for $160 jumper leads saying that they are a car accessory. We used them to start the tractor.???

As it turned out police caught the thief and I had the leads returned.
Jen & Mozzie, Thanks, it will look even better as the pavers start being placed.
Back to the pool paving.

Cheers Marty

Hi Peter,

I considered contracting it out.
I didn't like the job done on the coping. Its acceptable but it could have been better. As it stands I've recalled the contractor to replace a stone. The bullnose edge is shabby and cracked. There were 25 extra stones to choose the best out of and they couldn't be bothered to select the best stones.

That's why I'm doing the paving myself. At least it will be done right.

Cheers Marty

Good outcome Marty. We have been with AAMI for all insurances for over 10 years and the couple of minor claims we have had, there have been no issues. Every claim no questions, no hassles.

If you haven't already buy a Daisy pool blanket keeps the muck out and the water warm, reduces evaporation

Cheers

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the tip,
A Daisy? pool blanket. Why do you recommend that one. I'm interested to know. Is it better for some reason?

Cheers Marty
