WCS question - help needed

Hi there,

I was wondering if any WCS users could help me.

What do you enter for the Dec coordinates for your chosen star?

Im using version 2.02.

What do I enter for example Deneb which is -17degrees 59
Is it -17,59? I cant seem to add the degree symbol - you cant cut and paste it and entering the ascii doesnt work either so Im stuck just entering -17,59

For southerly star Peacock is -56degrees 44 so again what do I enter??
I assume -56,44

I realise I must change the setup from in the North to in the South for the respective stars.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Damian,

Here is my 'quick reference guide'.....For the Azimuth Adjustment - Star Dec, I input the dec as 5 in the example in the guide without any minutes.....I imagine that's the one you are asking about....for my Observation Place Lattitude, I simply enter -33.53 for sydney....

I just round the degrees, therefore Deneb = -18 and Peacock = -56.

if you have any software like starry night when you hover over a star it will give you all the info you need. also I remember reading that it doesnt need to be spot on. There is a forum for the software as well where I'm sure that very question has been asked and answered.

Hi,
I tried it out tonight for the first time and I had the same question about the degrees symbol.

It seems like bad programming to force a user to enter a symbol that is not available on most keyboads.

Also I found a bug that when I entered my location by editing the location that was there by default and accidently erased the degrees character, it got into an infinate loop showing a format error message.
I had to ctrl/alt/del to quit the program.

Although I managed to get the program working, I really didn't know what I was doing.

It may be an easy to use program for the programmer but without any kind of documention I found it confusing.

I had to stop when high clouds rolled in.

I will try to give it another go when the weather improves but at the moment I don't think I would buy it.

A 4 out of 10 from me so far I'm afraid.

Yeah its annoying however once you start entering the coordinates as per the posts here it works well.
One thing though...... it was suggested by someone here to only do half the suggested adjustment and once I started doing this I got alignment alot faster.
Again Im a newbie so others may be more particular with the accuracy.

Have you used Alignmaster? I find it great and quick to use.
