Registax/wavelets/RGBshift question

Hi all, can anyone give me some advice on this Registax question....
Ive gone through all the aligning,stacking,optimising proceedures & when i get to the Wavelet page & bring up the RBG shift dialogue box & click on 'Estimate', a few of my images separate dramatically.ie: the red channel is significantly offset from the green channel & sometimes there are no blues.
Why is the red & green channel doing this & the blue is sometimes non-existant?
Is is due to my 'white' balancing when Im setting the toucam up ready to image.Should the 'auto' white balance function give you a good default setting or is it best to manually adjust it?

I have seen that white balance somewhere. (K3ccd?????) I remember fiddling with this i think, but I now use iris.

The last two mars and saturns have not changed when i estimate RGB shift at all

I think Robin could be talking about the white balance in the toucam software, not sure though.

Yep, you got it Asi. Ive been fiddling around with the white balance in the toucam vrecord software & k3 as well.

I have'nt bothered with K3 as yet, just learning to original software that came with the camera.

Hi Robin

When setting the "RBG Shift" I find it easier if the "Alignment Box" fully encompose the planet. Run through all the steps as per noraml with Registax, once you get Wavelet page & bring up the RBG shift dialogue box you will find that the RBG estimate box will fully encompose the image and you should get a good estimation.

Robin, I was going to say the same as Anthony - make sure the alignment box encompasses the planet and it will align the channels better.

If you'd like, send me a zipped up avi file (upload it somewhere, or send me a CD?) and i'll have a shot at processing it and see if there's any blue there!

Hi Robin, how significantly are the colour channels being corrected/shifted? Typically I get anywhere from 0 to +/- 1 up to 3 corrections. I'd expect the degree of correction might depend on the amount of chromatic aberation through the individual system your using. I use a pretty low quality barlow that probably contributes to some of this. Wondered if the corrector plate on a SCT might introduce some small amount compared with the no glass Dall Kirkham cassegrain I've been using? Certainly when I've tried imaging using an acro refractor the channels split apart like their own mini-rainbow.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll try that alignment box tip thanks Anthoy & Mike. Robert, Most of my pics have a small shift from +/- 1 to 3.
The ones that have been giving me curry have been shifted up to +30!!!
I strongly suspect that Im doing something simple but in the long run, significantly wrong. Will keep working on because Ive got a couple of nice images which I'll post once Ive worked on them a bit more.
