EQ6 - Noise when I turn it on

Hi all,

Received my new NEQ6 Pro and have powered it up for the first time. When I turn the power on to the Mount there is a high pitched hum coming from the Mount?

I am doing nothing to the Mount other than having turned the power on.

Is this normal or do I have a problem?

Thanks Matt

I'm told it's normal. Fortunately, as you get older, the preception of the noise will decrease. I don't hear it at all.

After 25yrs of age, most people don't hear over 15kHz; and at my age, anything above around 6kHz.

What "high pitched hum coming from the Mount" ?

And when they are guiding, they "sing"! Awesome sound, I like it.
By the way, I'm 44 and can still hear it. Must be my Decepticon birth and upbringing!

Same with me. I can clearly hear it if I am doing some testing indoors but when I am using it properly I don't notice it but can hear it if I listen for it. I also notice the different in the sound when changing from sidereal to lunar tracking. When I first turn the mount on I listen for the hum as a check that everything is OK.

It's a beautiful sound. The constantly changing pitch when guiding to the high pitched sound when it slews.

Ah, really lets you sit back and enjoy the night sky. Distracts from the mozzies that's for sure.

And in the dark it lets you know where it is. Its a wonderful sound.. until you start tapping your foot to the EQ6 beat .
