Boonoo boonoo NP

An easy drive north eat of tenterfield with a lot of interesting history
Fred Ward ( captain thunderbolt ) "bailed up" quite a few at the boonoo gap , his old hideout looking down the valley is signed and an easy walk to visit..
http://www.nedkellysworld.com.au/bushrangers/ward_f.htm

The same area contains tank traps placed there to slow a feared Japenese invasion .. so important was this little gap in the mountains.

The park itself is readilly accessable by car and has a few campsites about 14 km (dirt) in.

Pics... boonoo falls is a very spectacular place easy access
Banjo Paterson while courting used to bring his future wife here.

Hi Glen

Yes nice spot not far from the airport you observed from ?

No where to observe from at the camping site , but half way in there is a
large basin type geographic form that has over a hundred acres or so pretty much unhindered horizens in all directions.. road parking or something close would have no one bothering you through the night as its just so out of the way.

Morgans gulley is also worth a look (half way in ) or so .. its an old gold mine .. aside the info signed theres not a lot out there .. the hand dug race through the granite is easy to see here, with the rock removed and piled up above.. theres also some track like knotches the granite each side of the gulley below the race.. which look like were the tailings were removed from,, there is still gold here ,, recent prices have I believe stirred up interest in this area again
