NGC2442-3 in Volans

Just finished this set while waiting for some Geminids action!
Seeing started really good but deteriorated before I could get
another set with peltier cooling on. This set is CCD ambient 22c.
Bad framing...I wanted to get both galaxies in the shot, thinking
the fainter one was 2443! I will try for a more centred shot another night.

Wiki says this is a galaxy with part of the structure torn apart by
an unseen galaxy in it's past.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ngc2442_potw.jpg
Cartes labels one end as 2442 and the other as 2443.

The Wiki shot with a 45 degree rotation actually almost matches my
image scale and star depth/ size, although the Wiki image I think
is from a 1.5m sky survey camera in LaSilla Chile.

Edit: Image from 20-Dec...average seeing, better framing.

Nice shot Steve and interesting galaxy. It doesn't look symetrical. Might have taken a hit or being pulled by another one?
