Butterfly; a clever survival strategy – which end am I?

Hello,

A butterfly visiting our garden the other morning was kind enough to remain in one spot, long enough for me to grab a set of photos whilst it fed from the flowers.

At one stage, it turned its bottom to me and I was astonished to see another set of "eyes" and "antennae" waving in the viewfinder! A predator approaching from the rear could easily be fooled into believing this was the front end, so I guess the clever butterfly could escape sans tail!

Cheers

Dennis

That's amazing. You see plenty of spots on butterflies to mimic eyes - but nothing that elaborate. Not even a portrait by one of the masters could make you feel like the were eyes following you around the room like that butterfly!

People have noticed that I am the opposite of that butterfly - my head looks like my rear end!

Amazing photos Dennis The rear end shot is fantastic - I never knew! Talk about eyes in the back of your head!

Beautiful butterfly and well captured.

I remember getting drunk at Uni and mates painting/drawing a backside on my face. Is that the same thing? I always thought they were making fun of me, but they must have been protecting me from predators! Thanks guys!
