Hilarious Youi insurance TV ad with clueless telescope user

How many have seen the 'Youi' ad on TV for insurance, showing a clueless chap with his cheap Newtonian telescope pointing to the ground? He has his hand over the open end, and the mirror cell pointing up in the air, with the eyepiece at the bottom end of the OTA.

Nearly as bad as the collimation demo on the Obsession DVD with the two ladies... "Yes, nearly there, just back that screw off a fraction... yes... nearly - perfect!" - and the cover is on the primary

Regards,
Rob

Yes, that was funny. Why no one noticed, I don't know since it was so obvious. I think they are experienced amateurs, just pretending for the shot but no one thought......

I can't imagine any "experienced amateurs" wanting to appear that stupid. Someone who knows them would never let them live it down. Most actors will just take the money.

The presenter looks like Youi's usual front man and their ads normally have humour. He says "we can't protect him from his hobby". The scope needs protection from him.

For clarification, my comment was further to Rob's observation on a different situation - a moment in the Obsession marketing DVD.

I have no doubt that those in the TV ad are poorly-advised actors!

Bottom of Obsession's home page, you will be able to find the offer of a free DVD.

Yeah that was funny. I recon 90% of people who are not in astronomy wouldn't even know or notice though. Or maybe they did it on purpose as well in the commercial to really outline that they're still insuring the guy although he has no idea what he's doing?

Admit it - we've all done clueless things! OK, here goes. I pulled a trailer for the first 12 months with the heavy duty tow bar upside down on my Ford Futura. I kept wondering why the trailer was so low at the front. Then one day I saw the same towbar on the back of a higher 4WD and this light went off inside my head - take off towball, turn it around 180 deg, put tow ball back on. Trailer rides level! Duh!
