Paintshop Pro V10

Given as an early Xmas pressy. Just installed it and already struck a problem opening CR2 image files (from my 40D).

Q1 .
Any here using it for their image processing (of CR2 files from a Canon DSLR) and what's the trick ?

Q2
Is it as useful as PS3 or PS4 ?

I use both cs3 and Paint Shop Pro.
Each has it's strengths and weaknesses.
I found the Curves function in Paint Shop pretty ordinary, same with Levels.
But the Histogram Adjustment, Clarify, and Midtone, shadows and high lights are very good indeed.

1) It's an old version of Paintshp Pro (current @ X2, or version 12 I believe). The 40D isn't that old - X2 probably supports it, I very much doubt that v10 will.

2) Depends. Personally, I say no. It's a far inferior product to Photoshop.

Dave

PS I actually own a legit copy of Paintshop Pro X2 - I rarely use it because I find the interface crowded and unintuitive, and it's very sluggish. And I mean sluggish.

It would be failry unusual to need to load CR2 files directly into PS or PS pro for astro pics given the calibration/stacking required 1st in other software, why do you need to do that?. If you have too, use the software that came with the cam to convert to TFF 1st, its easy, and you dont loose anything there.

Ha !! .... looks like I may have scored a present that no one else wanted and that's been doing the rounds ....

Well , I just wanted to see if it would open my raws .... guess if I decide to stick with it .... I'll do my stacking pre processing in DSS then finish off in PS Pro 10.
Once I get around to taking multiple subs , darks , etc that is.

I may just keep it for simple stuff on non astro images and buy CS4 Student Version next year after I've got my other projects sorted : ie
the C fibre OTA
the ROR shed.

No rush.
