Flowing Away

Witnessing an amazing sunset on an overcast afternoon, I noticed that this stream was flowing away from the sun, yet, my eye was still being drawn towards the fiery final moments before the sun disappeared behind the range.

I made this image in the beautiful Fiordland region of New Zealand, on the way back towards Te Anau from Milford Sound.

A manual blend of the single RAW; processed for water and foliage.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
2s f/16.0 at 17.0mm iso100

Slightly larger version available here.

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

Regards,
Humayun

Awesome.
Like you I can't keep my eyes from the sunset. Realy does look like fire and smoke.
Love the turquoise colour in the water. Stunning.
Wish I had your processing skills!

Humayun,

I'm really digging the composition used in this shot. So much to look at and what wonderful colours! Fiordland is certainly a very beautiful region of NZ. Did you use a ND filter for this?

Lots of contrasting and complementing colours. Interesting how the stream appears as cloud winding among the rocks, how the red of some of the rocks complements the red in the folliage.

Magnifique. Very appealling. Can't believe you're still teasing us with NZ photos - mind you, I'm still going through mine

Nothing to critique here H - stunning shot. Gorgeous light, very good composition, plenty of good subject matter that isn't overpowering, and you've done wonders with the way that water is flowing. Love this shot! How much would it cost for me to get a A4 print of that?
