The "Beer Slide" - really, it is about astronomy!

Came across this:-

http://medkeff.com/jeff/astro/observing/beer/index.html

I had read mention of the effect of alcohol on observing, but here is the first data I have seen.

Wonder what my excess of caffeine (in coffee) does?

I wonder if thats a reason why some prefer to look at a laptop screen than to look into the sky

Hmmm, that might be true Eric, but after a few beers, who cares...

Do you need a lab assistant Kev?
And does homebrew count?

Steve

I don't believe his results. I will conduct the experiment myself to prove him wrong. I may have to do is a few times to ensure repeatabiliy...

I hope cloud doesn't move in part way through, or you'd have to do it all over again!

The beer slide has an interesting effect during imaging too. As one increases consumption, the ability to set guiding properly diminishes, but conversly, images look better, so the effect cancels out and everything appears to look normal (on the night). Untill the next morning, when processing is required in the cold light of day.

On balance though, when one considers the grin factor the night before, the extra work required to counter the beer factor in processing, is well worth the effort.

The caffeine slide of course has the opposite effect on imaging, you get so paranoid over getting settings just right, that no images are taken at all, very hard to overcome with processing .
