Jupiter Moon Occultation

I think I managed to capture a Jupiter Moon Occultation last night (Io and Europa) at around 8:40 pm. Here's two images taken 8 minutes apart around this time. While I missed the two moons approaching I did continue to capture them moving apart.

EDIT - I've been back through and included more frames either side of the original....

Well done Peter,

Try rotating your camera until the drift of Jupiter in RA, when you turn off your drive, is parallel with the long axis of the frame. Then you only have to worry about corrections in RA to keep Jupiter centered.

You will find that with this orientation the belts on Jupiter will be slightly tilted relative to the frame. As the major moons orbit more or less in the plane of the equator, you will be able to image them much further from the planet than is the case in these images.

Cheers
Trevor

Well done, Peter. Looks like you managed to capture the entire event. Ninox would make it into a nice little movie for you.

Well done, that is something I missed out on doing myself this year. I guess I will have to wait another 12 years now. The animation looks pretty cool too.
