Another pic from the last new moon. This galaxy always seems to be ill defined and "fuzzy" and it's hard to get a good pic.
Scope: 4" WO APO
Camera: QSI540
Exposure: 25 min each RGB, 50 min L (5 min subs).
Cropped to 45' x 45'from 67' x 67'
Slight tracking problems with the G8

Not an easy target to image. Always promises more than you wind up getting. Nice shot but is the tracking making the stars blocky or square-ish?

Nice shot, despite the tracking problems. One thing I have noticed is there's a couple of very faint bands in the piccie...look like some internal reflections, probably caused by a star.

Nice outcome for a tough target Geoff.

Did you find that using 5 minute subs the final image was pretty noisey? I found this with my QSI. 10 minute subs were like glass in comparison. I have been doing 5 minute RGB and 10 minute luminance. Just wondering what you QSI is reacting like.

Jeez! You guys have eyes like hawks! Yes, I think there are occasionally internal reflections from who knows what?. Something else that needs to be fixed.

Yep 10 min would definitely be better, but for some reason my G8 is having tracking problems, so I've kept the subs short. Not sure why. It's worked fine in the past.

Nice image Geoff. Although longer subs and more would be better this is far from a shabby image. Detail in the galaxy is clear and sharp.

Well done.

Geoff,

A most interesting target. I will have to have a look when the clouds go.
