mars on a downhill slide...

Been waiting over a week for a gap in the clouds wide enough to get a sniff of mars so I could try the neximage in raw-mode... last night I got the chance through thinning cloud and poor seeing. Hardly worth bothering, but I needed an imaging fix!

What's worse, the Mewlon's packed up to be sent off for servicing so I had to use my 6inch synta refractor - something I haven't really tried before. Stacked together a Baader IR/UV and a WO Minus Violet filter to try an kill off the colour fringing. This was only partially successful - quite striking how separate the red green and blue appear in registax compared with the reflectors combination.

The result attached reflects the challenges above more than anything else - it does at least Syrtis Major, a hint of Hellas and other prominent features. At least I've had a go now at raw mode and using avi raw etc - need some practice with focussing etc in this mode.

cheers,
