monochrome saturn from Snake Valley

Turns out that it was probably too optimistic to image saturn at the snake valley camp - it was rising too close to sunrise and the seeing had started to fall apart by the time it was high enough for me to point the scope at it.

Anyway, the red channel is always good for a laugh, so that's all I'm going to process :-)

regards, Bird

Wow that's still a great shot mate.

What's the details of the scope used?

It's the same scope I used for all the other images I posted here over the last week or so from the snake valley expedition...sometimes I think "they all know what scope I've got, I always give the details so this time I won't"....

lol

let's see now...

10" f/6 newtonian working @ f/48 via a 5x powermate and extension tubes
Dragonfly Express monochrome camera
filter wheel and RGB filters

about 1000 frames stacked out of 2400 taken through the red channel only.

regards, Bird

Ken, I'm seriously envious of the seeing conditions at your place mate - you've gotta get setup for planetary imaging or else it'll be a crime against humanity!!

You might find me knocking on your door at some time when the new scope n stuff is finished...

You are very very welcome Bird! I have spent many hours today scouring the net for EQ plans to make an EQ mount for my 12". After the comments from a lot of people at camp I better get cracking and not let my dark clean sky go to waste (before a population explosion ruins it all).

Not bad at all, and certainly better than most Saturn images I have seen posted here.

Bird,

Can't imagine what your colour version shows out the details. Very jealous!

Thanks for the comments, but really I was hoping for much more from saturn on the trip - silly me didn't bother to check when it was rising or I would have realised that it was still too early in the season for good images - although I see them starting to pop up on other forums here and there...

Looks like 1 more month ought to do the trick, then saturn will be well placed in the predawn sky.

Bird
