Melbourne skies !!

Beautiful one day cloudy an hour later.

Sunshine for the past two days - not a cloud in sight. I've got tonight off, so looking forward to getting the scope out. Alas, when the sun goes down guess what - 100% cloud cover - frustrating . Forecasters are saying "mostly clear" for tonight, but I think they have their blinds closed.

Hoping for clearer skies over the week end, but not holding my breath !!

Melbourne's tag should be "If you're not crazy when you get here, you soon will be."

Managed to view the moon for a bit last night - enough time for the husb to sketch a bit of Mare Fecunditatis - but then whoosh! clouds, and no Jupiter for me

I haven't done much by the way of using the scope this last few months, due to the fact how the clouds "mysteriously appear" within one hour. Ok, being winter and early spring you'd expect that, but this year has been bad because we've had much more rain than in the last 10 years, at this time of the season.

It is frustrating, now I've found once a clear night, there is slight haze in the air and I get the light glare from Dandy and Fountain Gate shops drowning out the lower ALT levels. Massive light glare anymore.

In about 10 months since I've had the scope, I've had only one (1) spectacular night viewing, the sky was dark, it was unbelievable.
I've never had anywhere close to it ever since. :/
But I do get somewhat dark skies from a "suburbia" POV.

I just hope my gears come in early so I can get this project on the go and start viewing the summer sky via computer.

We've had some wonderful clear nights down here in Warrnambool. Certainly not all night but enough to get excited about.

I been struck with a few weeks of evening cloud that seems to roll in around 7pm.

I suppose it could be worse, imagine if we lived on Venus.

Cheers

That's what I thought last night too. It didn't affect me as I had to get up at 4 bloody AM, but still a forecast of clear when there is 8/8 rubbish is infuriating at best. Stupid forecasters must lack a window or windows in their place of employment and/or residence. The medical term is called BOMrage (Bureau of Meteorology Rage).

I already do, except our temperatures are more Neptune-like.

Friday Clear. Winds south to southeasterly averaging up to 30 km/h. Becoming cloudy. Isolated showers later in the day. Light winds tending northerly up to 30 km/h during the morning then tending west to southwesterly up to 20 km/h during the afternoon.

It was looking bad @ about 4pm when I was heading back into Melbourne with a large sheet of dark clouds heading from the bay, but now its cleared
Time to observe!

In Cartes du Ciel, yes. In the sky, no, since the clouds won.

That's odd, here it was perfectly clear at sunset, no clouds in any direction. There were a few around 4pm, but nothing to suggest anything sinister on the way. Must be the crappy climate on the immediate Antarctic ocean coastline

Tonight was forecasted to be a pile of crap anyway.... even during the afternoon it was unusually hazy, let alone the incoming cloud.

Never mind, it's a booze, steak and Family Guy night tonight
