GEM to Dob

A while back a friend bought an 8" telescope on a GEM. Later she complained about the time to set up and the difficulty in working around the polar area. I built a dobbie mount which works well and is very portable. The telescope is mounted on rubber and is then strapped down with webbing which is doubled back on itself and locked in place with velcro.

Nice job Chris.
I like the way you dealt with the cradle.

I did the same conversion a while back with my homemade 8".
I reckon it gets more use now as a Dob by me and my son

Yes she now uses it more in the dobbie mode 'cos it's easier
