should I consider a dioptrx????

Hi all,If anyone can help a newbie-it would be much appreciated!
I am currently waiting to buy a gso dob(either an 8" or 10") as there are none availible at the moment!
I am also toying with the idea about buying a nice wide medium EP with the scope purchase(maybe a nagler 6 13mm or something similar)--any guidance on EP choices would be good also?
I do wear glasses for reading(my script says +1.75 right eye),so should I factor in buying the dioptrx also?
Any advice would be really appreciated!
Thanks very much.
Cheers--Eric

Don't know much about the Dioptrix, but the 13mm Nagler is a great choice. It is my main EP now and I love it! And great value at current prices. If you get the GSO dob that I got, it will come with 5 EPS, the 32mm, the 25mm and the Nagler 13mm will givce you heaps of views. Only ever use the others for some planetary stuff, but very rarely. Don't forget, aperture rules so try for the biggest scope you can afford and handle, then see if you can afford the Nagler!

Thanks Malcolm--it looks like the nagler 13mm is on the short list--its good having someone to confirm your kind of on the right track!
Yep--I will will keep in mind the bigger scope(but my back yard is a bit of multi level nightmare--complete with trees blocking views etc etc).
Because of this,I may have to move the scope around abit--( I may also have to travel by car to a darker spots due to some lp from an industrial area close by)?
I suspect the 8" would be the best sensible alternative for me(due to size etc etc--
Im also very worried I will be disapointed with an 8"???
HMMMMM--decisions decisions???
Thanks for your advice Malcolm

Eric. I feel the pain, as I can only view about 50% of the sky with trees and houses at my place and half of what I can see is badly affected by LP. I used an 8" and now have a 12". I find it not significntly more diff.cult to move the 12 than with the 8. I built atroll;ey so I just pop the OTA on that if i need to move it around in the yard. I try to plan my sessions so I don't have to move it if I can.
On the other hand, the 8" is a great size, will keep you happy for months or years of observing and is easy to handle. Suggest you get to a gathering and compare, people are always pleased to have others look through their scopes and if you ask nicely may even let you pick them up to get an idea of the weight etc.

Maybe you should also look into longer ER EP's too. Especially if you
find you need glasses to observe with. TV Radians might be a good
alternative if you want to stay with TV ep's. Or Pentax XW's are a
superb long ER EP. Have you had the chance of trying some out yet?
I'd recommend trying to attend a local gathering where you may be
able to try a few out.

Cheers,CS

Note T6 Naglers require an adaptor to use Dioptrix. See http://www.televue.com/engine/page.asp?ID=259 (bottom video).

This will reduce useable eye relief and may limit maximum AFOV seen but I'm not sure as I haven't tried it.

May I suggest the Tele Vue 12mm T4 Nagler in lieu of the 13mm T6 for better eye relief (17mm instead of 12mm) or the 12 or 14mm Radians which have 20mm eye relief.

Astros suggestion re the T4 12mm is excellent. Best advice is see if you try them out to decide if the extra $100 is worth it!

I prolly have the same script (right eye) by now as you
and used a 13 t6 for a couple of years , fantastic eyepiece

over time I found the 13 's eye relief to be getting a little tight , not unusable just a bit uncomfortable , and I don''t use my reading glasses to observe with, don't understand that one ?

Anyway now everthing I have has long eye relief . .. I havn't tried a 12 t4 , love my 22t4 , miss the wide field of the 13 t6 but
trading to a 14 xw was a move I've yet to regret.

Hi nightstalker--sorry about the misunderstanding--my fault,I should have explained my question abit better--
What I was really trying to find out was--if I didnt buy the dioptrx(to match my glasses script),would I most likely run into optical issues if I dont wear glasses observing?
Thanks again everyone--this advice is so valuable for a newbie--what a great bunch of helpfull people!

Addition to my last post--Yes of course you did answer my question nightstalker-On the re-read I responded in too much of a hurry at lunch time--- and got my reply ^##$$$^^*garbled.
Thanks again for the feedback,it seems in this game, its best to try before you buy(if at all possible)??
It does appear that the better quality eps are quite popular though!
Now if I can get hold of a good medium power wide angle one that will work properly with my eyes---- just to start off with?????

Cheers-Eric
