The Pillars of Creation now in Hubble colours - wide field repro added

Ok yes.... it's a Sidonio I know

But I took on board what a few had said and came up with this version. The stars are now a more natural colour and the SIIHaOII colour balance is more like Hubbles. I used some old LHaRGB data captured with the Starfire and small chip Starlightxpress SXV-H9 camera back in mid 2006 and combined it all into a single image - hence the framing (which I like anyway). I have to agree with those who suggested reworking the pallet, thanks

Favourite framing (1meg):

Wider field 1550 X 1050 (1.9meg)

Wider field Full resolution 2039 X 1380 (3.5meg)

That's fabulous Mike. Such incredible resolution from only 6 inches of aperture is amazing. I'd be happy with that much resolution from a 16 inch scope.

Greg.

Hi Mike I love the detail and contrast you have been able to attain with the hubble palett.
I couldn't help myself, bored to tears, it's snowing on the hills and it's as cold as charity so I have Sidonio'd a Sidonio. What a mouth full.
Hope you don't mind. All I have done is a very small amount of sharpening and a lift of contrast. I quite like the result but each to his own.

Nice repro Doug. I just noticed that you hail from Mt Beauty - nice town, haven't been there for a few years.

Prefer this version Mike. The Hubble colours just seem to be a bit more subtle.

The Pillars image is a ripper

The Eagle is the new Centaurus A :-P

Ah de ja vu

Thanks for the feedback and comments guys

I decided to work on the wider field shot too by incorporating data taken through an 80mm APO and the little SXVH9 back in 2005, this allowed me to create the Hubble colours in the new data and bring a more natural colour to the stars. Becasue I was effectively directly averagring out the data taken from the two scopes (rather than doing an LRGB combine where the Lum provides the resolution) the effective resolution has dropped a tiny bit but I think it still looks nice and crisp..? I weighted the AP data more highly to assist in holding most of the fine details

1550 X 1050 (1.9meg)
http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...47261/original

Full resolution 2039 X 1380 (3.5meg)
http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...46672/original

Enjoy

Doug - I played with the contrast and colour saturation just as you have done actually but I ended up settling on a less saturated colour and lower contrast, it just felt better at the time..? When the saturation is ramped up as you have done the red/magenta stars become too obvious and the nebula takes on a slightly unrealistic edge..? It's pretty touch and go but I prefered the more subtle presentation I guess? Having said that I think I have upped the colour and contrast just a tad more in the new wider field Sidonio he he

Mike
