Mushy Mars - just a couple hours ago

Hi All, this one's pretty fresh picked from the evening starfields (cloudfields?) of Brisbane. Seeing pretty poor really ~3-4/10 so result's a little mushy and this is a tad overprocessed. STill Sinus Meridani is very clear and the dust storm is still raging obliterating Oxus and Margaritifer Sinus. There's a bright patch in the North Polar Hood (on the downside of the face as shown here) that stands out as well - perhaps the formation on north polar cap...?

Might see if the seeings improved and will process a few other avi's - not sure yet if this is the best of the batch. If I get something better I'll pst it up here tommorow.

Not bad Robert considering the conditions that you were working with. Image scale is nice but I feel that you image is a tad out of focus. It is really had to get good focus under those conditions. Also you have some Bayer cross hatching in the image. Aside from that though the image shows lots of detail. Well done.

Took another avi later in the evening in the hope of better seeing - that never came - this followup shows a slightly different face on mars if not actually better detail.

Pretty good Rob. Where does that 'cross-hatching' spring from...compression?

I've been wondering about the cross-hatching myself - sometimes I get sometimes not. Had thought it was related to how much gain used when taking the avi but that not it. Rumples reckons it's "Bayer cross-hatching" and that it occurred for him when using resampling in Registax. I'm going to try de-bayering and varying the re-sampling dimensions I've been using and see if that removes it. There is a compression setting under the quality tab in registax that defaults to "60" and have tried playing with that but still not sure what it does ... need to dig out those instructions again! cheers, Rob

Yes, it's definately something to do with resampling. I tried resampling one of mine only last night @ 2X & got the same effect.
